WHO has been provided malaria pandemic regions with insecticide-treated mosquito nets (ITNs), artemisinin-based combination therapy, indoor residual spray, as well as rapid test diagnostic (RDT).RDT plays an essential role in controlling malaria due to its ability to offer early detection of the disease right at the point of care without any special equipment. As a result, patients can receive the treatment at the earliest stage, which is extremely important in stopping the spread of the disease within the bodies.
According to WHO, the number of suspected cases that received malaria RDT has increased from 41% in 2010 to 65% in 2015.WHO has established a set of criteria called ASSURE to ensure the quality of all malaria RDT on the market, which stands for: affordable, sensitive, specific, user friendly, rapid and robust, equipment-free, and deliverable to the end-user.
